Cerruti is a brand of the fashion house Cerruti which was founded in 1967 in Paris by Italian designer and fashion producer Nino Cerruti. The brand name is appended to "1881" because Nino's grandfather founded the family's wool factory, Fratelli Cerruti Wool Mill, in Italy in 1881.

In 1967, Cerruti was launched with the opening of the flagship store, at 3 Place de la Madeleine in Paris, France, in order to be closer to the capital of international fashion, the place is also the headquarters of the company.

In August 2006, the company became the property of the US firm MatlinPatterson Global Advisors.

In December 2010, the company was acquired by Chinese clothing retailer Trinity Limited.

In 1881, Nino Cerruti's grandfather founded the Lanificio Fratelli Cerruti textile factory, which is located in Biella (Piedmont, Italy). The water in the area is used to wash and process the wool, which is mainly imported from Australia and South Africa, to develop vanilla, tweed, cashmere, and butter gauze. Nino Cerruti took over the family business after the death of his father in 1950.

Today, Cerruti fabrics are still produced in the same workshops.

The Cerruti brand was launched in 1967 with its men's clothing collection. And in 1976, the "Cerruti Woman" line was created. Before establishing his own brand in 1974, Giorgio Armani worked in Paris under Cerruti.
